About Cathy Faughnan

I grew up in Pueblo CO watching and learning to sew from my mother turned textile artist. I attended the University of Colorado and received a degree in Environmental Design with many classes in art, design and art history. I then went on to work as an urban planner in New York City but always wanted to paint.  I moved back to Colorado in 2003 and raised 3 kids in Lafayette while volunteering and dabbling in painting. In 2017 when my youngest graduated from high school, I finally had time to really dig into painting, so I started taking classes from local artist, attending workshops and experimenting with different mediums and techniques, I landed on acrylic but have recently dabble in sculpture, mixed media and stitched collage.  I am thrilled to be a Key Artist at R Gallery in Boulder.  I participate in the Boulder Open Studios and East Boulder County Artist Studio Tours and show at pARTiculars Gallery in Lafayette and Western Stars Gallery in Lyons.  I teach acrylic painting and mixed media at pARTiculars Gallery in Lafayette.

I would describe my paintings as bold modern impressionism.  I love strong colors and am inspired by the west and especially Colorado paining landscapes, florals and animals found in our beloved state.  Much of my work is created in our cabin in near Estes Park where I am endlessly fascinated by the rocks, trees, and vistas I see out my window and while hiking. I think my unique use of color, texture and layering sets my work apart and hopefully brings joy to those who see and own one of my pieces.
